Korean Hip Hop is best when it stops trying to appeal to a global audience, and rather when it leans into local music traditions. The trendiest songs right now blend borrowed trap/drill frameworks with signature Korean anxieties, such as status pressure, isolation and quiet flexes that aren’t over the top. The best songs in this genre come from artists who treat hip hop less like cosplay, and more like a language they’re fluent in.
